Opening of the rallycross season in Latvia will take place on May 7 and 8 at the Biķernieki sports base. On first day, the debut of newly established Latvian-Lithuanian rallycross championship, but on Sunday, the first round of FIA NEZ Baltic rallycross championship. At the motorsport event will compete Rallycross drivers from the Baltics, as well as further northern European countries.
The year 2022 will start with the opening of a new rallycross championship in cooperation with the organizers of Latvia and Lithuania. The Latvian-Lithuanian rallycross championship was created with the aim of developing and creating a high-class competition series and attracting more new drivers. The novelty is not only the championship, but also the format of the competition, which is borrowed from the prestigious “Nitro Rallycross” competition in America, where the Latvian rallycross driver Ronalds Baldiņš made his debut last season.
Janis Bergs, organizer of the rallycross competitions: “We are opening the season at Bikernieki track, in two days, the first races of this year in two championships. May 7 Latvian-Lithuanian rallycross championship, but May 8 FIA NEZ Baltic rallycross championship. In the coming seasons we want to reach new heights. We start the 2022 season with a new breath, we have united with our Lithuanian colleagues and created new Latvian-Lithuanian rallycross championship. I think that by creating an opportunity to cooperate, we will develop this championship together, increasing both the number of participants and the competition,” reveals the organizer.
“Following the trends in the world, we have also changed the race format within this championship, 6-9 cars will take part in the qualifying, nine cars will race in the finals, and "last chance races" or LCQ, which was borrowed from the races in America.I think the winners of the new championship and race format will be both drivers and spectators. This season will be very interesting and full of good rallycross," adds Janis Bergs.
Opening race will take place at the world-famous Biķernieki rallycross track. Drivers can apply for participation in various groups for salon-cars, as well as crosscarts, creating an opportunity to start with the well-known LADA up to crosscarts and European-level Supercar cars.
All rallycross fans are also invited to watch the race. Tickets for spectators for each day of the event are available in advance sale at www.aula.lv, their price is EUR 11.50. Disabled in wheelchair and companion, as well as children up to 13 years, entry is free of charge.
